Like many of you out there, my news feed on Facebook at the moment has been mostly dominated by pictures of a greased up arse. I'm not going to mention her name (that would be giving her even MORE publicity!) but you all know who I mean. I've been wondering to myself, why? Just generally, why would a woman choose to try and take over the internet with pictures of themselves naked? Fame and money? Attention? Surely she has enough already. Or is she merely giving her fans what they want?
The media can be blamed a lot nowadays, I often do blame it too, but what if the media are purely giving us what we want - may we have to stop blaming and take responsibility for the kind of society we have become? It seems people find it easier to place the blame.
Sometimes female celebrities posing nude is seen as 'liberating' - they are making a feminist point apparently. Recently a famous actress did a topless shoot (not naming again for same reasons!) to 'make her point', which just happened to be released just as her new film was released.
How can we make a valid point about feminism by taking our clothes off? The irony of that is beyond me. It seems that a lot of women want to prove their acceptance of their own bodies by posing nude or scantily clad - can we not be happy with our bodies whilst wearing a few more clothes?
If you have to get naked to prove your point, it is likely to be missed with the distraction of two other points (sorry, bad joke I know). If a woman is comfortable in her own skin, I applaud her, but why the need to prove that anyone else?
